Once again UNIDOM will be raising the Dominican flag IN THE CITY OF WHITE PLAINS, commemorating the 167 Anniversary of the Independence of the Dominic

The most relevant Civic Act to the Dominicans, will take place on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 4:00 pm at the Renaissance Plaza, 200 Main St. White Plains, NY 10601, where dignitaries from White Plains and Westchester County are expected to attend, as well as the assistance of the entire community.

UNIDOM (Unidad Dominicana de Hudson Valley) is proud to share this celebration, meeting again with the commitment set out for our fellow Dominicans, friends, colleagues and community members.

UNIDOM is a nonprofit organization that seeks among its objectives, to maintain the traditions, and to promote civic and cultural values of the Dominicans, while encouraging present and future generations to take positions of leadership and service in the community. UNIDOM makes a concerted effort to project the best image abroad of a progressive and integrated community, whose essence reflects the warmth and joy of his people through his music, and folklore.

Mr. Leonardo Espinal, president of UNIDOM expressed great satisfaction and gratitude for the support given to the various activities (cultural and traditional) that the organization has provided to the community, establishing a positive difference for those who follow his path of achievement, and he adds: "It is very important that we support our patriotic events and other cultural events where we engage our children, and our youth to be proud of their roots and origin.” I count on you to spread the message."

The civic ceremony will be preceded by a Grand Fiesta Carnival to be held at Lazy Lounge, 152 Mamaroneck Ave White Plains, NY 10601. We invite everyone to enjoy "appetizers, snacks and soft drinks as well as an "open bar ", a snack buffet from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm., Raffles, and Special Presentations.

Dominicans in White Plains, NY. Celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Altagracia. Event held by UNIDOM, Inc.

On January 23rd the Dominican & Latino community came together at St. Bernard’s church in White Plains, NY, to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Altagracia.

The celebration was a complete success, with the whole community gathering together at the weekly mass to celebrate the honored day of our protector ( La Virgen de Altagracia) also known as Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia and Tatica la de Higuey.
The mass was led by Rev. Robert J. Morris, who we gratefully thank for all his outstanding support to UNIDOM, the entire Latino community.

After the mass the whole community was invited to the church’s chapel hall were we presented a special celebration which included bits and pieces of our culture mainly delivering a great performance held by kids dressed in folkloric clothing and danced Perico Ripao, we also shared a taste of our culture, by serving many of our traditional dishes such as Mangu, Yuca, Chicken, Roast Pork, Rice and Beans, Coffee and of course our outstanding Dominican cake.

This celebration wouldn’t have been possible without the help of all UNIDOM members, los curcillistas de St. Bernards, el grupo de oraciones de la Iglesia Mount Carmel located in Elmsford, NY, Rev. Robert J. Morris, Isabel Villar y Judith Aucar from El Centro Hispano,choir members, Minerva Guerrero Representing the group los Altagracianos of Yonkers , The Council Member of Yonkers District 2 Wilson Terrero and the following Businesses:

“HOISTING THE DOMINICAN FLAG IN THE CITY OF WHITE PLAINS”

Celebrating the 166th Anniversary of the Independence of the Dominican Republic

On Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 6:30pm, the non-profit community based organization UNIDOM will raise the Dominican flag in the City of White Plains, NY. This event will take place at the intersection of Main Street and Court Street.

This is the second year that UNIDOM (United Dominicans of Hudson Valley) will raise the Dominican Flag in White Plains in the presence of its’ members, friends, supporters and the community. This symbolic event is proudly conducted to commemorate the 166th Anniversary of the Independence of the Dominican Republic.

UNIDOM is a community based non-profit organization whose mission consists of maintaining traditions, civic and cultural values. UNIDOM seeks to serve as role models to project our best image of integrity, respect and service. We strive to share our culture via events that illustrate our essence as a hard working community. We will work to foster our cultural values to current and future generations while encouraging youngsters to become leaders in the community.

Mr. Leonardo Espinal, president of UNIDOM states, “As a Dominican residing in White Plains, it is very nice to see our community come together and support such an important event. I'm counting on all of you to spread the word and make this event a tradition in our town.”

To complete the celebration, the community is invited to join UNIDOM for an after party at CABO’s Restaurant located at 107 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, NY from 8:00pm to 12:00am. The after party cost is $45 per person which will include a DJ, Appetizers and Open Bar.

AGAINST ALL ODDS, UNIDOM KEEPS THE PROMISE…

Despite the adverse weather conditions, the 9th White Plains Hispanic Parade and Festival

showed its best performance last Sunday, October 18th.
Once again, Dominicans projected their best image, thereby enhancing the name and culture of
the Dominican Republic with folkloric groups who marched in typical custom along
Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains. This dynamic city wore its best colors and danced the
sticky rhythm of “Merengue”, which inadvertently moved the dozens of attendees. UNIDOM
brought Live-music and a beautiful carnaval float, which made it the main attraction of the event.
The excellent participation of UNIDOM has again been praised by members of the Board Parade Committee and the local authorities during the last years.

Out of the 21 participating countries, the Dominican Republic showed the largest flag in the
parade and in a bowing gesture in front of the standing review by City Hall where Hon. Mayor
Delfino together with other Parade Honorees were applauding its participation. Mr. Delfino, in a
fraternal gesture embraced Mr. Leonardo Espinal, President of UNIDOM, and expressed his
immense respect and admiration for the Dominican community of White Plains.

Mr. Espinal said to the Media who covered the event: "I am happy and pleased with the
participation and support given to UNIDOM; many of us proudly feel our “Dominicanidad” and
show our best image of Latinos abroad”
"The White Plains Hispanic Day Parade and Festival is the most important event for Hispanics in Westchester County. It is our purpose, to unify the Dominican community and Latinos in
general; and UNIDOM had taken significant steps towards achieving it on such short period of
time”. “Among our achievements, we had for the first time, “The Hoisting of the Dominican Flag” an unprecedented civic act (never done by another Hispanic country in the city of White Plains), on last February 27, 2009. We’d also had for 2 consecutive years, our famous Softball
Tournaments. Also on June 2008, UNIDOM offered its full cooperation and support to the
Dominican Consulate in New York City, through the recognition of meritorious students of
White Plains High School”. "And we’d had other no less significant communitiy activities
where we manifest our singularity”.

Last 27th of February 2009, Dominicans were making History in the City of White Plains...

The Dominican Community of White Plains was honored on the occasion of the 165th Anniversary of the Independence of the Dominican Republic.

For the first time in the City of White Plains, and with the recognition and support of the honorable Joseph Delfino, our City Mayor, other City officials, and the assistance of many distinguished members; we were able to hoist our Tri-color Dominican flag in the downtown, at the White Plains fountain.
Despite the current weather condition and with an audience of over 100 people, the Civic ceremony was initiated with a blessing from Father Morris (St. Bernard's church), followed by words from Mayor Delfino, who honored The Dominican Community with a Proclamation stating the following:

"It is with great pleasure and pride that I honor the Dominican Community of White Plains on the occasion of the 165th Anniversary of the Independence of the Dominican Republic; The Dominican Community of White Plains continually demonstrated its commitment to unify and stand in solidarity with the community at large, while maintaining and strengthening its values and traditions; It has elevated the economic, intellectual, social and cultural life of White Plains and further enriches the ethnic diversity our City values and celebrates; And by striving for a better quality of life, and by its dedication to hard work, faith, family, and those less fortunate, The Dominican Community exemplifies the best of what it is to be American".

Immediately after, we were able to respectfully intone the lyrics of the National Anthems from USA and the Dominican Republic while hoisting both flags.

Dominicans organize in White Plains (July 18/2008)

There’s a movement afoot to bring together people of Dominican heritage in the White Plains area. They’re having a “first annual” softball tournament at White Plains High School on Sunday, and they’ve settled on the name UNIDOM” Unidad Dominicana de Hudson Valley, or Dominicans United, said Clara Tavarez, a real estate broker who serves as the group’s secretary. Westchester is home to more than 10,000 Dominican immigrants, according to census estimates.

UNIDOM is planning to march in White Plains’ Hispanic Day Parade on Oct. 19. Earlier this month, some local students were honored in an event with the Dominican Republic consul, Eduardo Selman.
